Take a boat tour of Jug Bay with naturalist and osprey expert, Greg Kearns, who will share the history of the region, its ecology, and the efforts being made to protect and preserve the vital species who make the wetlands their home. You will have an opportunity to see up close an osprey and learn about the banding process.
The tour is recommended for adults and kids aged 12+.
Greg Kearns, a M-NCPPC naturalist for over 35 years at Patuxent River Park in Upper Marlboro, Maryland, is an expert birder and renowned authority on sora rail birds, ospreys, and the wetland ecology of Jug Bay.

Patuxent River Park, 16000 Croom Airport Road, Upper Marlboro, MD 20772
Get onto Rte. 4 N.
Take the exit for Rte. 301 South/Crain Hwy. toward Richmond & then go 3.5 miles.
Turn left onto Croom Rd. (Rte. 382) and then go 3.5 miles.
Turn left onto Croom Airport Rd. and then go 2 miles.
Turn into park driveway and follow that 1.5 miles to Visitor Parking.
Join us to learn about Ospreys, the often-seen “fish hawk” of local rivers and the Chesapeake Bay. Greg Kearns will cover Osprey biology on the Patuxent River, the provision of nesting platforms, efforts to increase their numbers, his banding program with the public, re-introduction efforts, satellite tracking of migration and more. This is an informative and fascinating presentation on a unique species of raptor. Light refreshments will be served. Due to its lengthy duration, the presentation is recommended for adults and kids aged 12+.
