Our historic house museum will be open between 1:00 and 4:00 pm with 2 speaker events between 1:30 and 4:00 pm. This is a free event with Light refreshments.
First, at 1:30 pm, New Bay Books publisher Sandra Olivetti Martin shares stories of summertime in Shady Side and at the Rural Home in the 1920s.
Museums and historic sites all over Anne Arundel County turn this weekend into a showcase for telling their unique stories, evolved throughout the 390 years of Maryland history. Oral histories collected in the 1980s transcribed in the twenty-teens are one of the great treasures of Captain Avery Museum. They’re easily findable online—yet they’re mostly undiscovered and unread, waiting for their chance to come back to life. From them comes today’s story: Turn Back the Years a Century for a Summer Holiday in Shady Side. The price is right: free. The stories are good. So, you’re in the right place.
Then, at 3:00 pm, Meet local watermen and learn about modern watermen's livelihoods and their contribution to our Chesapeake Bay heritage. Presented by the Anne Arundel Watermen's Association. Includes children's crafts and activities.
Volunteers are needed from 12:30 to 4:30 pm at Captain Avery Museum.
Help is needed in the following areas: Food and Drink, Children's Activities, Museum Greeter, Tech Support. Click the button below to sign up to volunteer.
