Upcoming Choose It Opportunities

Here is a preview of our upcoming Choose It! opportunities. Check back as we add more over the next few months. These items/events will be available for purchase at the Museum starting Sunday, October 15th, 12:30PM, at the Oyster Festival.

Simply visit the Choose It! booth, make your selections, pay the cashier and receive your purchase certificate. Proxies are welcome - if you can’t come on October 15th, arrange with a friend to do your choosing and to pay. First come, first served. After the Oyster Festival, remaining items will be available for purchase on our website.

Place: Slippery Slope Farm, Lothian       Donors: Eileen Stein, Cheryl Rigdon

Learn how border collies are trained to herd sheep and watch them in action - a crowd pleaser for adults and children alike. Eileen Stein, past President of the American Border Collie Association will discuss how she trains her dogs and assesses their suitability for herding. You will also watch as a fully trained dog  shows the skills needed to be a useful sheepdog, and a younger dog shows how training progresses to reach that goal. The demonstration will last about an hour and takes place in an open field. This is a stand-up event so feel free to bring a lawn chair.  Refreshments and pastries will be served.

Two Quarts of Homemade Chili in your choice of Turkey, Meat Lovers, or Veggie. Can’t eat it all at once? Chili will be delivered in individual quarts so you can freeze one for later.

The farmhouse at Ivy Neck was built in nearly its present configuration as a wedding present for Charles Murray Colhoun & Cornelia Murray in 1872. The evening will celebrate the traditional cooking from Maryland’s Way cookbook, to which Ivy Neck contributed many recipes. This original farm to table cookbook includes traditional and historic recipes dating back to Colonial, Revolutionary, and early United States eras, all drawn from the letters and documents left behind from the owners and cooks at some of Maryland's most stately homes. There is a recipe for everyone and a story or anecdote about most of the recipes.

The area has a Walk Score of 97 and the Metro and several bus lines are located nearby. It won’t be Spring but Rosé Wine is good any time of year. Come to drink, enjoy a light French meal accompanied by several rosés from France, the US and South Africa and learn about the different rosés. Provence is undoubtedly the champion region for rosé wine; eighty-five percent of its wine production is rosé. One can even find a bubbly rosé, with which the meal will begin.

Yum! A crust-like taste filled with jelly from a family recipe. Twelve layers or more, with each layer as thin as a pie crust and wrapped in waxed paper to “dry” for 6-8 weeks. Elaine’s mother and grandmother made these cakes, usually with grape jelly from home grown Concord grapes. These would be a great addition to your Thanksgiving meal.
