Welcome

WELCOME TO THE CAPTAIN AVERY MUSEUM

Nestled on the West River, our charming historic home and waterfront property is the perfect destination for learning about the life and livelihood of a Chesapeake Bay waterman in the late 19th century, the fishing club that owned the home for 60 years, and the exciting ways local history and the property are being preserved today. Come visit us. There is always something interesting to do and see!

PROGRAMS and EVENTS

We offer programs and events for people of all ages throughout the year: evening activities; daytime speakers; exhibits; community events, occasional excursions and education programs.
For six consecutive Wednesdays in January and February, the museum provides an exciting line-up of professional speakers. These popular events include a delicious lunch, featuring homemade soups, specialty breads and tasty desserts.
Our annual “friends and family homecoming” takes place on the third Sunday of October. Come to our waterfront, enjoy live music, meet artists, participate in kids’ activities and find plenty of great food and bushels of oysters.
We arrange activities for children’s groups of all ages. Visits can encompass cultural history, hands-on projects and/or environmental stewardship lessons. We can customize these programs based on your interests. Contact us today!
