Sundae Sunday August 13

August 13 @ 1:00 pm - 4:00 pm

Free

Some very special guests will add to the fun at Captain Avery Museum’s Sundae Sunday on August 13. Pamela Moore, director of Edgewater’s National Ballet Company, will lead an interactive reading of the children’s classic The Tale of Peter Rabbit promptly at 1:30pm. She will be in costume and will bring a lop-eared rabbit named after the famous literary bunny. Costumed members of Moore’s company will act out characters from the story and Moore will recruit children from the audience for other roles. The live Peter Rabbit will not be in costume but will be available for petting.

Sundae Sunday is a monthly summertime event at the museum designed to encourage kids of all ages to spend an afternoon enjoying the museum’s spacious waterfront grounds. Visitors can play lawn games such as badminton and croquet, grab a canvas for sketching in the garden, or just take in the view. And, of course, everyone is encouraged to enjoy an ice cream sundae.

Admission is free. Homemade chocolate or caramel sundaes are $1.50 for kids’ size (1 scoop) and $3 for regular size (2 scoops).

The Tale of Peter Rabbit is the first in a series of stories by English author Beatrix Potter that feature the mischievous Peter Rabbit, who sneaks into Mr. McGregor’s garden to feast on vegetables. Possibly the world’s most famous rabbit, Peter has delighted generations of children since he made his first appearance in 1902.

Founded in 1948, the National Ballet Company is Maryland’s oldest professional ballet company. Pamela Moore’s mother, Helen, founded the company in 1948. A professional dancer herself since age 16, Pamela Moore has directed the company since 1970
