March means Maryland Day

March means Maryland Day for the Captain Avery Museum — and for the last few years, this special weekend has meant showcasing the talented students of Southern High School. Visual artists, sculptors, culinary artists, and musicians have made our last two Maryland Day open houses true celebrations, worthy of the holiday that marks the landing of the first settlers of our great state.

For a third year, I will get to install about 40 works of student Art in a show we call emergentThis show is curated by Southern’s Art department chair and renown portrait artist Michael Bell, as a sort of preview to the school’s signature ArtQuest event that occurs in April.

This year, the show will be installed in mid-March, in time for a preview during Greg Kearns’ “Greet the Osprey” presentation on Saturday, March 18 at 1 pm. Our reception to celebrate the opening of emergent III and all the featured artists will be on Sunday, March 26, from 1 to 4 pm. We can’t wait to see you there!
